Williamnagar was formed around the former town of Simsanggre, which is based on the large plains of theSimsang River. A very remote area usually known for its abundance of natural beauty i.e. being flanked by the mountains and having a rich composition of both water and vegetation.
Williamnagar, the headquarters of the EastGaro Hillsdistrict ofMeghalaya, was named after Captain Williamson A. Sangma, the first Chief Minister of the State of Meghalaya. Williamnagar is of immense historical importance as it was here that the Garos made their last major resistance to the British invasion into Garo Hills during the year 1837.

One Day Itinerary
Visit the Simsang River early morning to freshen yourself up and get all charged up for the day. Follow this by a visit to the Siju Caves, which shall pretty much leave in awe. Next on the list would be the highly intricate Mrik Wara rock formations. A few selfies here and there would do enough justice to your Instagram & Facebook profile. Then leave for Naka Chikong, 120 km away from Williamnagar which is another must visit for this place and end your day by getting drenched in the waters of the Domre Waterfalls.

Williamnagar is quite a remote area and hence, is not very developed in the catering scenario either. Thus, one would be restricted to very few options when it comes to food. It follows the traditional Meghalaya cuisine though.
