Natural Habitat Tura is located in the Garo Hills, which is richly diverse in flora and fauna. The region comprises mainly deciduous and evergreen forests filled with different varieties of trees including the Tura peak which lends its name to the place, insectivorous plants, ferns, rare orchids, and medicinal varieties. The forests also have many fruits trees like plums, peaches, pears, oranges etc. as well as spices such as ginger, turmeric, cinnamon etc. The region is home to many species of animals including - hoolock gibbon, muntjac or the barking deer, golden langur, Himalayan black bear, elephants, leopards etc. The hilly forests also have a large avian population. Some of the birds found here are - the thick-billed green pigeon, red-winged crested cuckoo, grey-headed myna, red jungle fowl and blue-throated barbet.
