One may also visit the Rongbang Dar Falls, while a trip to this area, without visiting theSiju caves, would remain somewhat incomplete. Nestled among several hills in western Meghalaya, Tura is a surprise for nature lovers. A lesser known hilly town, Tura is a treat for nature lovers and explorers.
Natural Habitat
Tura is located in the Garo Hills, which is richly diverse in flora and fauna. The region comprises mainly deciduous and evergreen forests filled with different varieties of trees including the Tura peak which lends its name to the place, insectivorous plants, ferns, rare orchids, and medicinal varieties. The forests also have many fruits trees like plums, peaches, pears, oranges etc. as well as spices such as ginger, turmeric, cinnamon etc. The region is home to many species of animals including - hoolock gibbon, muntjac or the barking deer, golden langur, Himalayan black bear, elephants, leopards etc. The hilly forests also have a large avian population. Some of the birds found here are - the thick-billed green pigeon, red-winged crested cuckoo, grey-headed myna, red jungle fowl and blue-throated barbet.

The headquarters of the Western Garo Hills, Tura is an unexplored paradise in the western part of Meghalaya. Located in the foothills of the picturesque Tura Peak, the hilly town is home to a diaspora of tribes namely, the Garo. The relaxing greenery, vibrant flora, and fauna of the region attract numerous tourists. Scattered with several waterfalls, Tura is the administrative center of the Garo tribes and one of the biggest cities in Meghalaya.
Itinerary
Day 1:Explore the hilly town. Visit the Botanical Garden, Pelgawari Falls, DC Park and Gangdrakdare.
Day 2:Visit Sasatgre, a Garo village and sip into some rice beer.
Day 3:Enjoy the thick forests in Balpakram or Nokrek.

Tura receives moderate rainfall in monsoons. The season is characterized by strong winds and intermittent rains and is the best season to experience Tura in its true shade.

The temperature in winters ranges between 4 to 25 degrees Celcius. Though Winters are quite chilly in Tura, the festivals in this season, like the Wangala harvest festival adds an extra charm to the city.
