Khammam Tourism Khammam city, erstwhile known as Kammamet, is located in the state of Telangana, approximately 200 km from the capital Hyderabad. A historically important city, Khammam hosted many movements during India?s freedom struggle. The Khammam Fort, which had periods of reign by both Hindu and Muslim leaders, is an important cultural landmark of the city, and a popular tourist destination. According to legends, the Narsimhadri temple situated here on a hilltop is said to have existed since 1.6 million years, the city derives its name from the vertical rock that acts as pillar or 'Khamba' below the temple. Etymology It is believed that the name Khammam has been derived from the Narsimhadri temple. It was earlier known as Stamba Sikhari and then Stambhadri. It is believed that the temple is 1.6 million years old. It is believed to be there from Treta Yug. The temple is so called because it is situated on a vertical rock. This gives the city the name Khammam which means pillar. The present name has been derived from "Kambam Mettu" to "Kammammet". Some historical records show that in older days the name was Kammamet.

Afterwards, you should definitely visit Gundala for a dip in hot water spring that spreads over 100 square yards. It is believed that this spring was created by Serpent King Adi Sesha.
