Camping/Shelter Kunchenjunga National Park Trek does not offer any proper accommodation for the trekkers. Most of the tourists carry their own sleeping bags and tents. Water Availability Carry your own water as well during the trek. However, you will have the opportunity to refill your water stock from the rivers flowing during the trek. Food Availability You wonÕt find any eateries on the way except for a tea stall that sells tea and biscuits only. ItÕs always a good idea to carry your own food during trekking. General tips and tricks 1. Make sure you carry warm clothes irrespective of the fact that what season you are travelling in. 2. Carry your own trekking gear and equipments and be always prepared. 3. Carry a medical aid kit and your usual medicines for the way. 4. A good pair of trekking shoes is a must. 5. Carry raingear no matter if you are travelling during monsoon season. 6. Make sure you obtain all the permits well in advance required for trekking in the region. 7. Make sure you carry spare batteries and film roll for camera as there will be no electricity supply. 8. A well informed and trained guide is very important and do make sure to sought out all trivial things well in advance to avoid misunderstanding. History of Kunchenjenga The history of Kunchenjenga reads that until the year of 1852 Kanchenjunga was considered as the highest peak of the world. After the Great Trigonometric Survey of India in 1849, Mt. Everest was declared the highest mountain based on various readings and measurements. Kanchenjunga was officially moved to the third place in 1856. The locals consider the mountain a sacred place, an abode of Gods and even believe that a yeti (Himalayan demon), called Nee-gued still roams its slopes. The mountain is off limits to climbers since 2000. Khangchendzonga National Park Located in Sikkim and encompassing the Kanchenjunga Peak and the Zemu glacier, this National Park and biosphere reserve are the latest addition to the list of UNESCO world heritage sites in India. Spread over an area of 850 sq km, it is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna with 550 species of birds alone. Some of the important animals found are the snow leopard, Himalayan tahr, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, Tibetan wild ass, wild dog, Himalayan blue sheep, civet, serow, sloth bear, goral, red panda, takin and snakes like Russell's viper.

How to Reach Kanchenjunga The Kanchenjunga peak can be viewed from many points in Darjeeling, however, Tiger Hills is one of the best places from where you can see the peaks. To reach Tiger Hills you can hire a cab from Darjeeling and make a short journey of 12 km.
