"Bird-watchers Paradise" Dibru Saikhowa National Park Tourism Dibru Saikhowa National Park is one of those places which boast of a rich collection of flora and fauna, many of them endangered. It is one of the few remaining protected sites in the Endemic Bird Area of the Assamese Plains. Dibru Saikhowa National Park is a river island national park and one of the 19 biodiversity hotspots in the world. This National Park is situated 12 km north ofTinsukiain Assam. Of the seven parts of the park, one is a wetland and the rest is mainly covered with grasslands and dense forest. Animal life to be viewed in their natural habitat includes royal Bengal tiger, hoolock gibbons and leopards, it is also home to some restricted-range species, such as the White-winged Wood Duck, Bengal Florican, Lesser Adjutant Stork, spotted-billed Pelican, White-bellied Heron, Pallas's Fish Eagle, Swamp Partridge, Jerdon's Babbler, Black-breasted Parrotbill and Striated Grassbird. Marsh Babbler, Swamp Prinia and Yellow Weaver. There are no roads and hence no jungle safari or elephant rides for roaming in the park, so you can explore the park only by trekking, although boat service is available which can take you to various spots. Kekjori Trees Kekjori Trees are known for there vast branches, one single tree covers an area of several bighas with branches spreading low and wide. With its majestic appearance as well as folk beliefs surrounding its existence, the kekjori tree has emerged as an important tourist attracting spot. A visit to look at these trees requires a 15 minutes boat ride to an island in middle of Bhramaputra and and half hour walk. The path to these trees is also a cow trail. Churkey Sapori Churkey Sapori (river island) in the north of the Saikhowa part of the Park is famous for spotting the bright colored wild horses known as "Feral Horses". The Feral horses are free-ranging, untamed horses descended from domestic horses, and are not true wild horses. Although not a scheduled wildlife species, the feral horses of Dibru-Saikhowa have considerable curiosity value. The most recent count in 2008 estimates a population of 48 feral horses in Dibru-Saikhowa, which are the third and fourth generations of the original feral horses. The horses roam in three to four herds. During the monsoon, bands of up to 17 animals have been seen together. Maguri matapung beel (lake) This beel is a heaven for bird lovers. The lake has six villages on either side of it and it is classified as an Important Bird Area(IBA). It is a host to 374 different species of birds. The boat safari on this lake is an amazing opportunity for bird watchers to spot migratory birds and rare birds of various descents. Rare species like Baikal Teal, Faceted duck, Jerdon's babbler, Swamp Prinia etc. have been recorded here. If undertaken during the evenings, the sights and sounds are sure to leave you awed and mesmerized.

One Day Itinerary It will be a very good idea to start your day early morning. If you are staying in Tinsukia, then take a bus or taxi to Dibru National Park. Start with the boat ride on the Maguri matapung beel where you can spot hundreds of species of birds which have migrated from various corners of the world. Then you can go to the dolphin spot where if you are lucky enough you can spot the endangered River Dolphin. After this, visit the two forest villages located in the National Park - Laika and Dodhia. Here you can visit the homes of the Mishing Tribe and experience the life of these Assamese people.The ethnic diversity, lifestyle and cultural tradition of other ethnic tribes such as the Mottocks, the Morans, the Sonowal Kacharis and the Nepalese are also quite attractive for interested tourists. The next spot to visit can be the Churkey Sapori (river island) in the north of the Saikhowa part of the Park where you can spot the famous bright coloured wild horses known as "Feral Horses". After this, you can visit the Kekjori trees. It requires a 15 minutes boat ride to an island in the middle of the Brahmaputra and half hour walk. The path to these trees is also a cow trail so you can spot the wild buffaloes on way. If there is still time left you can enjoy the nature by trekking in the park.

Restaurants and Local Food in Dibru Saikhowa National Park Dibru National Park do not have much to offer in terms of food to its tourists except for few eating joints here and there.

Nov-Apris the best time to visit Dibru Saikhowa National Park October to March is the best time for the bird watchers and trekking since the river's channels dry up during this period. Most parts of the Park remain inundated with flood water from April to September and rowing through the many channels and nullahs during this periods is an invitation to adventurous pleasure. November to April is the best time to enjoy the migratory birds which are the main attraction of this park. Weather in Dibru Saikhowa National Park Loading... Dibru Saikhowa National Park in Summer (May - August) Summers are breezy and quaint in this region with temperature ranging around 28 to 38 degrees Celcius. July and August experience the maximum rise in temperature. Dibru Saikhowa National Park in Monsoon (June - September) This region experiences heavy rainfall which results in the increase in the water pressure of the Brahmaputra River. The temperature during this time ranges from 20 to 28 degrees Celcius with high humidity. However, if someone wants to enjoy surfing, then this is the best time to visit. Dibru Saikhowa National Park in Winter (November - February) Winters are chilly here with the temperature dropping down to 7 degrees Celcius.
