Yangtey can be visited throughout the year. However, the best season to see the snow-covered peaks is the winter season.
How to Reach Yangtey
Air:The Bagdogra Airport is the nearest airport to Yangtey. It is 124 kms away from Geyzing. You will have to take a taxi from the airport to reach Geyzing and then another taxi from Geyzing to visit Yangtey.
Rail:The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station which is 140 kms away.ë_From there, taxis are available to get to Yangtey.
Road:Yangtey is at a distance of 2 kms from Geyzing, therefore if you are traveling from Gangtok, you can hire a bus and get down at Geyzing and then take a taxi from there to reach Yangtey.
Getting Around Yangtey
You can either hire a bicycle or motorcycle to travel within the area. You can also simply walk to places. Guides are available in Pelling to take you for nature walks and monastic treks.
Where to Stay
Yangtey has only one resort that is Tashigang Resort. The view of the sun rise from the resort and the varying hues of Mt. Kanchenjungha during sunrise is splendid. The Tashigang Resort has room types like Super Deluxe, Deluxe Cottage and Suite Cottage. It has very comfortable rooms and great services. The interiors of the cottages compliment the outer environment of the mountains and valleys.

Shopping in Yangtey
There are not many shops in Yangtey but you will have a good shopping experience in Pelling. Pelling has all the traditional Buddhist handicrafts you might need. From colourful threaded scarves to hand woven woollen carpets, shopping in Pelling is a true delight. Everything ranging from Tibetan prayer flags to singing bowls and Lepcha weave shawls is available here. One must buy traditional Tibetan thangkas (paintings) and souvenir items while visiting this place. The Rural Artisan Marketing Centre also sells walnuts and organic tea. Don_Ñét forget to buy the woollen carpets from this place.
The Yangtey Experience
The tribe that dominates this region is the Limbu community. Apart from them, Pelling has other sub-castes like Khamdhak, Muringla, Tamling, Lingden and Pegha. The people here mostly earn their living by farming. The crops that are grown here include cardamom, maize, paddy, wheat and buckwheat. The whole place rejoices in a festive mood at the onset of the Kanchenjanga Festival that is celebrated once a year. The festival has several fun activities like white-water rafting on the Rangit, Kayaking, promotional trekking, and mountain biking and other adventurous. The traditional Limbu dance uding the Chhab-rung (drum) and other cultural arts are also presented during this festive time.

There is a bar as well at Tashigang Resort called Rabdentse Bar which serves internationally acclaimed brands as well as popular local offerings. You can enjoy a drink here.
Yangtey's Cuisine
The cuisine in Yangtey is not limited to either vegetarian or non-vegetarian as both are easily available here. One can have delicious Indian, Tibetan and Chinese cuisines here. A huge range of local fare is also available in Pelling that is a gourmet's real delight. Traditional Momos and Thukpa are found everywhere and taste amazing.

Itinerary
A trip to Yangtey is best combined excursions to Pelling. Reach Yangtey and check into a hotel. Then travel to the view point to enjoy the beautiful view of the ranges nearby. You can then go for nature walks in the late evening.ë_ The next day you travel to Pelling and Pemyangtse Monastery. If you visit the monastery in January-February, you will also get to see the religious dance called _ÑÉCham_Ñé. After that, have lunch at a nearby restaurant. See the Khangchendzonga and Changey Waterfalls and then the Sewaro Rock Garden.ë_While here, do not miss the Khecheopalri Lake.
Tips
It is best to always travel with a guide. Since the vegetation is fragile, it is best to walk on designated trails. Do not littering and deposit garbage at selected places. Keep all kinds of pollutants away from streams and lakes. It is customary to leave a donation at a monastery and to circle shrines in clockwise direction. Avoid smoking, drinking and talking loudly near sacred places.
