Vizianagaram Fort and Moti Mahal
Vizianagaram Fort was founded by Vijayarama Raju I. It was built in 1713 AD on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashmi. The main entrance to this fort was the Victory Arch but the main entrance changed to East Gate. The Victory Arch has a temple of Lord Hanuman on one side and a temple of Goddess Lakshmi on the other. The goddess is popular by another name, which is 'Goddess Kota Shakti'. It is believed that the Raja of Vizianagaram would especially seek blessings of this goddess before going to war. This fort is a jewel in beautiful history of Vizianagaram. It is a must visit for every history lover and feel proud of our rich heritage.
Motimahal was constructed by Vijayarama III. It was made in 1869 as a Maharaja's court. Two exquisite marble statue welcome you at the entrance of the mahal that tells you the rich taste of the royal family that lived there. The building is now contributing towards female education as its first floor is especially used as a college for women. There is a museum there which displays the beautiful link of the mahal with the history.
One Day Itinerary
Day 1 -After you reach Vizianagaram and get energised by eating delicious local cuisine get ready for a fully packed day. Firstly the must visit on the list is Vizianagaram Fort. It is full of history and religious beliefs. There is beautiful garden over there to enjoy a picnic. After lunch, you can go and visit the Clock Tower. It was built after the Rajahs took inspiration from Big Ben in London. Then roam around in the local market.Day 2 -Firstly visiting Pydithalli Ammavaru is a must. Take blessings from the Goddess for rich and prosperous life. Then visit Moddukovillu. After lunch, you can go to Saripalli to visit Dibbi Lingeswara Swami. Get immersed in the beauty of the temple.Day 3 -You can visit the land where the Battle of Bobbili took place. The war is amongst the most significant episode of the history of Andhra Pradesh. The place will make you reminisce the era where brave men fought for our country.

Vizianagaram predominantly serves the South Indian cuisine that mainly comprises of rice, dal, rasam, sambar, vegetable curries, pickles and curd. The food is however, a bit spicy but delicious at the same time.

The weather condition in Vizianagaram is mostly humid throughout the year with extremely hot summers. The summer season in the city extends from March to May. Monsoon season in the city receives heavy rainfall which continues until September with the month of October receiving post monsoon jitters. Winters, however, are mildly cold and experience very pleasant weather and thus are recommended as the ideal time to explore the area.
