A group of seven fresh water lakes, a stash of nature's bounty and loads of migratory birds and panoramic vistas make this wonderful place called Sattal. A paradise for nature buffs and bird watchers, Sattal has mystery to it that makes it all the more charming and photographer's paradise.
Situated in Kumaon Region at an elevation of 1370 m above the sea level, the area boasts of its cluster of seven interconnected lakes namely:Panna, Naldaymanti Tal, Ram, Sita, Lakshman, Bharat and Sukha Tal flanked by lush green cover of oaks and pines. With pleasant weather throughout the year, a visit to this destination away from the noise of cities is an experience not to be missed.

What's Great?
Unexplored part of Uttarakhand. At a very close distance from the infamous Nainital. Perfect place for campers who want to enjoy quite evenings near a beautiful lake. Migratory birds make up for a perfect view.
What's not so Great?
Not many accommodations are available here. Most of the restaurants only serve North Indian dishes.

Biodiversity at Sattal
The calm surroundings of Sattal attract a number of tourists throughout the year. Unlike other hill stations, Sattal is still very much natural. Present in the Kumaon district of Uttarakhand, Sattal is gorgeously surrounded by mountains and hills. But one thing that makes Sattal truly worth visiting is its biodiversity.
It is an abode to many migratory birds and gives shelter to different kinds of trees and plants.
Medical herbs, ferns, shrubs and orchards are found in abundance here. Sattal attracts a huge amount of unique birds like Barbets, Himalayan kingfishers, babblers, Himalayan Griffon, dollar bird, etc. When these colourful birds come to Sattal, it's a sight to behold. A lot of fishes like Mahseers and catla are found here. In fact, Sattal sees a huge amount of gorgeous butterflies like peacock, panzy and red lacewing. Sattal is truly a paradise for all those who want to see different species co-existing.
One Day Itinerary
Day 1:Reach Sattal and trek to the nearby places. Camp near the seven lakes and indulge in fun activities like fishing and boating there.
Day 2:Enjoy some local sightseeing. Go to Subhashdhara. Then explore the spirituality at Sattal through Methodist Ashram. Observe various varieties of butterflies at Sattal's unique Butterfly museum.

Sattal experiences quite a pleasant and enjoyable weather during summers. The place is warm in a comfortable way and evenings are cool. Light woollens will suffice during the season. The winter season is freezing cold but the views it offers are simply breathtaking. Carry heavy woollens if travelling during the winters. The place is almost blushing in fresh and vibrant colours during and after the monsoon but is prone to heavy rain falls. So beware of visiting during the season due to landslides. It is best to visit the town during the months of March-June and September-December.

Sattal in Summer (April - June)
Sattal's summer season stretches from April to June. The temperature varies from 15 degrees Celsius to as hot as 30 degrees Celsius. A lot of tourists come during the summer season. Especially during the month of May, when the children have their summer vacations, you can see a large number of families coming here.
Sattal in Monsoon (July - August)
The season of monsoon sees a reduction in tourists. Sattal receives rainfall in the month of July and August. You can still enjoy Sattal, as the frequent showers make it a whole lot more enjoyable.
Sattal in Winter (September - March)
The winter season of Sattal begins in November and stretches to late February. It is a great time for trekkers, as the snow-covered roads make up for a perfect adventure.
