The Base to Amarnath
Situated in the Anantnag district of Kashmir Valley, Pahalgam is a beautiful hill station, which also serves as the base of the holy tour of Amarnath Caves. Chandanwari located 16.6 km. away from Pahalgam, is the actual base camp of the Amarnath tour. Situated on the banks of Lidder River, at an altitude of over 7200 feet, Pahalgam is a popular tourist destination and a hill station. Not many know that Pahalgam also is the site where the famous movie Betaab, starring Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh was shot. The valley was consequently named Betaab Valley after that as well. The Sheshnag Lake situated near this town is another bliss altogether. Close to Amarnath Caves, this is a sight enough to soothe your eyes. Pahalgam is one site that you shouldn't miss, whether religiously or aesthetically.

Itinerary
Day 1 -Reach Pahalgam, preferably by noon and take some rest. In the evening, you can go to the main market in Pahalgam, where you can buy the local wonders. Day 2 -If you're in for the Amarnath Yatra, the 2nd day is when you should ideally take off for your trip. By a two minute drive from Pahalgam, you will reach Chandanwari, the base camp of the holy entourage to Amarnath, which takes a day to complete if you travel by foot, although ponies and helicopters are also available. En route, you shall observe the beautiful Sheshnaag lake, from which the hills which house the Holy cave of Amarnath.Day 3 -This day should be reserved for the return from the Amarnath Caves, as the entire trip might prove a bit cumbersome for the legs. You can come down after the Darshan through the shorter route via Baltal.Day 4 -The final day should be reserved for a trip to the famous Betaab Valley, which was a renamed after the famous film starring Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh. By the time you return Pahalgam, the hill station will have etched a space forever in your memories.

Pahalgam in Summer (April - June)
This is the most advisable time, with the temperatures ranging between 11 to 25 degrees Celcius. The days are warm and good for sightseeing. This season is also an ideal one for the revered tour of the Amarnath Caves, and hence witness a peak in the number of travellers bound for Pahalgam.
Pahalgam in Monsoon (July - September)
Although the monsoon season receives very less rainfall, the climate can get a bit humid. Travellers still throng this site, owing to the Amarnath Yatra as well as for outdoor activities, especially adventure sports. The skies are generally clear.
Pahalgam in Winter (October - February)
