How to Reach Aru Valley
Air:The closest airport is that at Srinagar which is situated at 95 km from Pahalgam.
Rail:The Jammu Tavi railway station is situated closest to Pahalgam. Once you de-board the train, there are plenty of buses and cars available to Pahalgam. This journey will take about 8 hours by car and 12-14 hours by bus.
Road:Well connected to Srinagar and Jammu by roadways, Pahalgam can be very easily accessed why buses and taxis. Aru Valley is located around 100 km from Srinagar and takes around 2 hours to reach. You can drive down or hire a cab. The road up to Pahalgam is quite good, lined with colourful local shops. Once you reach Pahalgam, Aru Valley is only 12 km away. The road gets winding and narrow from here, and you need to be careful while driving.
Where to Stay
Staying at Aru valley is a better option if you treasure nature as an experience, and enjoy scenic beauty in silence. The Milky Way guest house offers beautiful cottages and is one of the most preferred staying options here. Rohella is another very popular one.
Activities in Aru Valley
There are about 20 alpine lakes, peaks and meadows around the Aru Valley. In the winters, when Aru receives heavy snowfall, skiing and heli-skiing are practised. Other popular tourist activities include fishing of trout in the Lidder river, trekking, hiking, horse riding, sightseeing and photography. While in Aru Valley, do take time to just sit in the meadows and soak the pristine beauty of the place. You will enjoy the solitude here like no place else.
Aru Valley's Cuisine
While you might not find any local specialty or highlight in the cuisine here, some of the hotels and resorts can be seen offering basic and popular Indian and Chinese preparations. One might chance upon some local preparations as well, especially in the nearby towns.

Itinerary
Various packages will be available at the hotels you will be staying at. One of the best packages available is one including Aru valley,
and Betab valley. ECO cars are available to transport you there, and the whole trip costs about 1050 INR for these two points. Prices are negotiable. It takes a total of 3-4 hours if you are staying at nearby Palgham, but it will take less if you are staying at Aru itself. Places like Chandanwadi can be visited if you visit anytime other than winter. Baisaran and Kashmir valley can be explored on Pony as well.
Tips
1. The horse owners will flock you and quote a high price for the horses claiming that it featured in the movie "Bajarangi Bhaijaan". However, don't be fooled and bargain properly before starting the ride.2. If opting for activities like skiing, make sure to confirm price beforehand.3. If you want to explore the place in a cab, you need to hire it from the marketplace in Pahalgam. Outside taxis are not allowed in Aru Valley.4. Wear comfortable shoes as you need to walk a lot in Aru.
