History of Navagraha Temple
Navagraha Temple was built in 1752 AD by the Asom King Rajesvar Singha. The temple braved a major earthquake however, it lost the shikhara styled dome in the tragedy. The dome was later rebuilt with corrugated iron sheets. But the Garbgriha or the inner sanctum still is preserved from the original monument.
Silpukhuri Tank at Navagraha Temple
In 1753 AD, King Rajesvar Singha also got a tiny water tank constructed in the premises of the temple to provide the temple goers and priests with a perennial supply of water. The tank was named ?Silpukhuri? and provides water to the needy till date. A stone inscription affixed at the head of the tank acknowledges the ruler and the artist who got it built.
How to Reach Navagraha Temple
Guwahati is well connected through state-run buses, taxi cabs and auto rickshaws. You can either drive down or hire a private vehicle. Alternatively, you can take a public bus till Cenikuthi bus stop and climb up to reach your destination.
