History of Bokaro Steel Plant Controlled by Steel Authority of India Limited, the Bokaro Steel Plant is located where a village named Mahaphari one existed. Originally the idea of creating this magnificent plant was conceived in year 1959 which was soon realized with the help of Soviets. The construction work of the plant was started on 6th April 1968. The Bokaro Steel Plant was the country's first indigenous project of its kind which utilised local material, manpower and intellectual resources in all places possible. Actually incorporated as a limited company in year 1964, it was later that the plant was merged with SAIL.  Architecture of Bokaro Steel Plant The Bokaro Steel Plant is designed in a way to produce several flat products such as Hot Rolled Plates, Hot Rolled Coils, Hot Rolled Sheets, Tin Mill Black Plates, Corrugated Sheets, Galvanized plain sheets and many more. Apart from that the plant also serves as a major raw material base for several modern engineering industries such as LPG Cylinder, pipe and tube, barrel and drum producing industries and automobile.
