Adventure and Trekking Destination
Apart from a famous pilgrimage centre, Tungnath also makes for a popular trekking destination. The trek is a 4 km stretch, starting from Chopta. To reach Chopta, one has to travel to Rudraprayag and then take a local taxi from Rudraprayag to Chopta. The route to Tungnath is the shortest of all the Panch Kedar trek routes. The trek provides a spectacular view of the meandering pastures.
One Day Itinerary
Tungnath is a small village which is approachable only via trekking of almost 3.5 km from Chopta. Begin your trip with an early morning visit to Tungnath Temple with a magnificent view of the sunrise. Make sure you have eaten a hearty breakfast in the morning and also carried some food along with you. A further trek of 1.5 km will take you to the shrine of Chandrashila. However, the trail is a bit risky so decide carefully. Now your next stop after this should be the beautiful village of Chopta. Break for lunch there and rest for a while to rejuvenate your body. Next either you can go to Deoria Tal and the lake and beautiful scenery or head on to Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary. With this end your trip at the hotel with a warm dinner.

Tungnath is a small village where apart from few dhabas you will not find any other eating outlets. Mostly you will be eating at your hotel or guest house.However, make sure you carry some food while traveling in and around the village.

The winters in Tungnath are cold with a sheet of snow all around. It is beautiful but the access to Tungnath is cut down, and soon the other neighboring places like Chopta also become inaccessible. During monsoon, the place becomes prone to landslides, so it is recommended to be avoided. During summers the town is in full bloom, and the air is fresh and crisp. Snow is melted by this time, and the peaks are covered wit a lush green cover of pine deodar and rhododendrons. It is best to visit the town between the months of April and November.

Tungnath in Summer (April - June)
Summers are the ideal time to visit the place. The Tungnath temple opens during summers, and it is the ideal time for pilgrims. Snow also melts by this time and peaks are covered with a lush green cover.
Tungnath in Monsoon (Septemer - October)
The monsoon in Tungnath is characterised by scanty rainfalls. This is a good time for sightseeing as the hills become very attractive in the rains. However, the area also becomes prone to landslides. So, be careful if you plan a visit during this time.

The place receives heavy snowfall during winters. Winters are excruciatingly cold, and the roads are also blocked. The average temperature ranges around 4 degrees Celcius while the minimum temperature can reach sub zero levels.
