Planetarium at Science Centre Located on the first floor of the Science Centre, the planetarium is a huge spherical auditorium that is mainly used to project extraordinarily wide multi-media shows- much like a glimpse of the entire universe. Visiting this planetarium will give you the opportunity to see the planetary bodies of various stars, moons, planets and milk ways up close! The shows are narrated in three languages- Gujarati, Hindi and English. The dome-shaped ceiling gives a more realistic effect to your journey through space. You are acquainted with celestial bodies, facts and tidbits about their nature and even celestial arrangements of astrological signs! Timings of Planetarium: The Planetarium is closed on Mondays and public holidays. On Sundays and Tuesdays, the show runs from 11:15 AM to 1:45 PM, and from Wednesdays to Saturdays, the show starts at 2:45 PM and goes on till 5:45 PM. Art Gallery at Science Centre The art gallery at the Science Centre in Surat is an art lover's paradise. Diamond Gallery at Science Centre The Diamond Gallery showcases the complete life cycle of a diamond, from the early stages of mining up until the final stages of polishing and shaping. All this information is compiled in various short films that make understanding the process much easier. A fun character, Hira Kaka, has been introduced in these videos to make the learning fun and gripping. There are many models displayed that show you the physical version of the diamond as it passes through the different stages of production. The Diamond Gallery reiterates the significant role of that India plays, especially Surat, in the diamond industry across the globe. You will be surprised to know that out of every 10 diamonds in the world, 9 diamonds are cut and polished in India! How to Reach Science Centre The Science Centre is situated along the City Light Road in Athwa. The nearest railway station is the Surat Railway Station which is 8.5 kms away from the Science Centre, which is a 20-minute drive. You can hail a cab or an auto rickshaw from here which will take you directly to the Science Centre at economical costs. The Surat Bus Stand is also very close to the railhead with a lot of buses plying in and out throughout the day. Taking a bus to the Science Centre will get you there in no time and at very cheap rates.
