History of Kandaghat During the British rule, Kandaghat played a small role in the administration of the area in and around Himachal. It was the seat of power for the local Deputy Commissioner and also the summer capital of the royalty of Patiala. The king of Patiala, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh was allotted the land by the British Government for his assistance in the Anglo-Nepalese War. Places To Visit in Kandaghat Chail View Palace of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh In the land given to him by the British, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh decided to build the most beautiful palace which would be his summer retreat. However, before building the palace at Chail, which is now called the Maharaja Palace, he built yet another at Kandaghat which offered a stunning view of Chail. A part of the building now has been taken up by the government to form the Women's Polytechnic College, but the private chambers used exclusively by the royalty are preserved for the tourists to have a glimpse into the riches of the past. The Shiv Temples There are many Shiv temples in Kandaghat for those with a spiritual heart. Jatoli Shiv Temple and Baba Balak Nath Temple are two of the most frequented ones. Some of these were restructured by the Maharaja when he took over the region in a sense, but their origins date back to 350-400 years, as per the folklore goes. So if a little bit of darshan is always on your tour itinerary, you will not miss out on that at Kandaghat. Karol ranges or Karol Tibba The Karol ranges are about 4 kilometres uphill from the main town of Kandaghat. There is an ancient temple for Lord Krishna at the highest point, one that has the legend of being built by the Pandavas during their exile from Hastinapur. The temple is inside a cave that is believed to be dug up by the five brothers of the epic. The actual depth of the cave has remained unfathomable and to where it leads remains to be a mystery, but many elders believe that it has its other end at the historical Mughal Gardens at Pinjore. You can trek up to the top of the Karol ranges to have a look of this mystical cave temple yourself. The peak also offers a mind-blowing view of the entire district of Solan. It is a view worth looking as well as capturing. Baba Thadda Mulla Baba Thadda Mulla is basically a waterfall around half a kilometre downhill from Kandaghat. It is a place of worship for the locals, though women are not allowed to do the same. The most passionate devotees believe that if you pray for something here, the wishes will be fulfilled within a week and after being granted with it, one has to sacrifice a black goat here as per the traditional vote of thanks to the deity. However, you can skip this if you don?t like the custom here.
