Shivagange Tourism Shivagange, a hillock situated 56 km from Bangalore, is a combination of temples and scenic beauty that makes it both a pilgrimage as well as an adventure spot. From a distance, the hillock looks like a 'Shiva Linga' - A form of Lord Shiva. There are many water spots on the way to the top of the hill and people there believe the water is of the sacred river Ganga. As a result of this, the hillock gained its name as Shivagange. The stone carving of 'Nandi'- the bull is a major attraction of the place and attracts a lot of visitors. The place is also known as Dakshina Kashi or Kashi of South India because of the many temples situated here. With the shape of the hill like the Shiva Linga, Shivagange is a Hindu pilgrimage centre and a perfect adventure hotspot. What's not so Great? The steep rocky terrain is very slippery during the monsoon season, hence making it a risky place to visit. Hotbed of adventure activities Shivagange, apart from being a famous Hindu pilgrimage and spiritual abode, is a house to many adventure activities. The mountain is ideal for rock climbing and trekking. The trek is suitable for amateurs as it is well marked by man-made steps. The trek is almost 2 to 3 km long and becomes narrower as one reaches the end. The panoramic view from the top is enchanting.

One Day Itinerary Start your day early whether it's for the trek or to visit the temple and reach Shivagange by 9:00 - 10:00 AM. You'll come across a Gopuram (a large pyramidal tower entrance of a temple) and half a km from there you'll reach the foothill. You'll be greeted by a huge Shiva statue at the base which signifies the start of the climb. There are many temples, statues and structures along the way that provide resting points during the climb. The Hill has man-made steps connecting the temples and climbing is sufficiently smooth, and the railings on either side of the route make the climb safe. The distance to the top is about 2 km and takes roughly 2 hours. Beware of the monkeys as they snatch food from people and even ransack their bags. It's best not to carry any food on the climb. There are food stalls at regular intervals that serve tea, biscuits and light snacks and you can take energy breaks here. The peak i.e. the statue of Nandi - the sacred bull carved out of a monolithic stone, is the risky part of the trek so tread carefully here. Once at the top, take in the scenic beauty that Shivagange has to offer. Start the descent by 2:00 - 2:30 PM and reach the foothill by 4:00 - 5:00 PM and take a bus or auto rickshaw to Dabbaspet or directly to Bangalore city.

Restaurants and Local Food in Shivagange There are food stalls along the way on the hill, that provide tea, biscuits and light snacks. You can carry your own food as well but it is advisable to not carry much food on the climb. The area is full of monkeys that are known to snatch food from people. There are two restaurants at the foot of the hill which serve basic south Indian food. The quality is passable and is a good food break from all the exertion

Oct-Maris the best time to visit Shivagange For Trekking:October- March;For Pilgrim:All round the year.Winters and early summers are a good time for trekking; the rocks tend to get slippery during the rainy season. October to March makes for the best time to visit the place.  Weather in Shivagange Loading... Shivagange in Summer (April-June) Even though the summers are extreme and harsh, it can make for a good time to trek. However, the pilgrimage can be tough during the season. Shivagange in Monsoon (July-September) Monsoons make the slope extremely slippery and risky for the trek. A trip to this place should be avoided in the monsoons.
