Rajmachi Tourism
Rajmachi is a small village situated in the Sahyadri mountain range of the Konkan region of Maharashtra. Rajmachi has two fortified peaks - Shrivardhan and Manaranjan forts, located near two famous hills of Lonavala andKhandala.
At the base of the fort is the village Udhewadi which is another name for Rajmachi. Rajmachi has seen many change of hands from Shivaji Maharaj, Emperor Aurangzeb, Shahu Maharaj and eventually the British reign. The fort of Rajmachi is famous among trekkers and adventure enthusiasts. If you want to experience a full-fledged trek, you can start from the Kondhane caves side which will take 3-4 hours of climbing, but otherwise you can drive right upto Udhewadi village (from the Lonavala side) and then trek for hardly 20-30 minutes to the top of the fort. The simple and clearly marked trail on both the paths make Rajmachi a very popular beginner's trek.

One Day Itinerary
Rajmachi fort can be covered easily in a day. Whichever route you choose, aim to reach the base village of Udhevadi by 9-10 am to start the ascend. Trekking in the misty morning while surrounded by such scenic beauty of the fort, is a sight you wouldn't want to miss. After you reach the plateau connecting both the peaks of Rajmachi which would take about half an hour, visit the temple and then chose which peak you want to climb first. You can easily do both in a day. Carry packed lunch which you can have at one ruins of the fort. The view from the peaks are breathtaking and gives ample backdrops for excellent photo-ops. Relax soaking in the beauty and then start descending for the by 4pm so that you reach the base before it gets dark. If you plan to stay, be sure to make prior arrangements. Lonavala and Khandala, two famous hills of Maharashtra, are near Rajmachi, if you want to extend your trip.
Restaurants and Local Food in Rajmachi
In Udhewadi, the village at the base camp, some villagers can make delicious home-cooked food for you - mostly egg/chicken curry or usal, dal along with bhakri and rice. You can also opt for snacking options like pohe, bhajis and maggi. Also available are refreshing drinks like kokam sharbat and neebu paani. You might be able to get misal pav and vada pav as well. The food is simple but has an extremely authentic Marathi flavour - a great pit-stop after a tiring trek.
However, for the trek, we recommend that you carry some snacks (dry fruits, apple, biscuits, etc) and plentiful of liquids and glucose because you won't be able to find any food while trekking.

June - January
Monsoon is the best time to visit Rajmachi as the mountain range greets you with lush vegetation and water springs as you climb up the fort. Hence, the months of June to September are an ideal time to be here. You can still do the trek after the rains - just that the weather will be a little hot, and there won't be as much greenery as the monsoon. We recommend that you plan to camp overnight if you're planning to do the trek in winters as the weather is pretty cold and windy at night.

Rajmachi in Monsoon (Jun-Sep)
These are the best months to visit Rajmachi - the weather and the views throughout the trek are just amazing. You get to see a number of small rivers and waterfalls all through the trek, and greenery everywhere around you. Just be careful to wear good shoes which let you trek on the slippery steps, carry a waterproof jacket and you are good to go for the trek.
Rajmachi in Winter (Nov - Jan)
During the winters, the area dries up quite significantly, so you wouldn't see any waterfalls/streams and neither would the views be that green. However, the temperature is quite comfortable, and since the trails are dry it is much easier to walk them. We would recommend that you plan to stay the night at the top either in a tent or rent a room at Udhewadi - the weather is quite cold and windy at night, and you can do stargazing at night.
