History of Nagpur Nagpur is the second capital of Maharashtra. Initially, Nagpur was ruled by the Gonds, but then province started slipping to the Marathas in 1739. After being acquired by the Marathas, the city was declared to be the capital by the Bhonsles. Eventually, it came under the influence of the British. After Independence, Vidharbha, the district that Nagpur lies in, was planned to be a part of Madhya Pradesh. But because of its Marathi speaking population, Vidharbha was merged with Maharashtra. Culture of Nagpur Also widely known as the Orange City, Nagpur has an assimilation of all the cultures around India. This city is said to be the least discriminatory city in Maharashtra. All cultures and religions are treated equally and given respect. Festivals from all Indian cultures are observed here. Ganesh Chaturthi especially is celebrated with vigour and pomp. It is also the home to South Central Cultural Zone, which is established by the government to promote India?s tradition, culture and heritage. The language natively spoken here is Marathi but Hindi too is widely understood and spoken in throughout the city. Industrial town and political hotspot One of the major commercial hubs apart from Mumbai, Nagpur is a bustling metropolis in Maharashtra. Also known as the 'Winter Capital of Maharashtra', Nagpur is a major commercial hub, home to some of the famous pharmaceutical firms like Baidyanath & Vicco, snacks manufacturer Haldiram's, ice cream maker Dinshaw's as the list goes on. Besides the above, Nagpur is also a hotbed of politics, being the site of Deekshabhoomi, where the eminent lawyer and politician Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar converted to Buddhism along with thousands of followers, along with being the official headquarters of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, India's largest NGO and an outright Indic Nationalist organisation. However, what makes Nagpur the most popular of all cities in India is its oranges, which are famous all over the world. Zero Mile This destination is a must visit, not only for the geographical enthusiasts but also for tourists of all types. This is officially the geographical center of India, from where all the distances of all the cities of India are calculated. Erected by the British, who considered Nagpur to be the geographical center of India, the Zero Mile Stone is a historical monument demarcating the exact point from where all the distances are calculated. Nowadays, this site is maintained by an eminent news daily, the Times of India. 

Itinerary Day 1:Reach Nagpur, preferably by noon, and take some rest. In the evening, you can take a stroll on the city side, particularly among the famous markets from the range of Sitabuldi Road, Dharampeth Shopping Street, or Sadar Bazaar, where you can pick from the choicest of curios, handicrafts or souvenirs for your own personal collection. Don't forget to have the famous Nagpur Oranges too. Day 2:The next day should be earmarked for a visit to the glorious Deekshabhoomi, which is a popular religious and tourist attraction. Not very far from here, at a distance of nearly 3.9 km., is the beautiful Ambazari Lake, which is a popular picnic hotspot as well in Nagpur. If you don't wish to visit the lake, you can also choose to visit Ramtek Fort, which is adjacent to the beautiful Khindsi lake. Hindu devotees can also visit the Ramtek Fort Temple. Day 3:The final day can start with blessings from Bhure Bhura Ganesh Mandir or the Shiva Temple in Nagpur. Then, you can proceed to Raman Science Center, which is a popular tourist hotspot, especially in the context of the adjacent planetarium, or if you prefer something else, you can choose to visit the famous Maharaj Bagh and Zoo, built by the Bhonsale dynasty of Nagpur. If you don't prefer any of them above, a refreshing retreat around one of the many lakes of Nagpur is the best way to end the charming trip around the Orange City.

Restaurants and Local Food in Nagpur Nagpur gets its definition from a huge variety of freshest and juiciest mangoes that you can savour here and take some home too. An authentic and rich Maharashtrian thali is a must have in Nagpur other than the numerous options of cuisine that the restaurants offer. Other than the restaurants, do step out and experience the vibrant street food culture.  Saoji Mutton is a very famous delicacy here which is known for its extremely spicy taste. It is often enjoyed with Lammb Poli which is a type of bread made especially in this region. You can also enjoy the taste of an authentic Maharashtrian Thali served in the many local restaurants here. Street food in Nagpur is very famous. Oct-Maris the best time to visit Nagpur Winter season is the best season for a visit to Nagpur. The months when Nagpur is ideal for a trip for the October - March. Monsoons are also nice for a visit to the same, although the heavy rainfall might ruin your plans. The summers, though, are the least advisable time for a visit, owing to the scorching heat. Summers are dry and hot with temperature soaring up to 49 degree Celsius. Weather in Nagpur Loading... Nagpur in Summer (April - June) This is the least advisable time for a trip to Nagpur. The days are scorching hot; the temperatures going as high as the only 49?C. Tourists should generally avoid this season for a visit. Nagpur in Monsoon (July - September) The monsoon season lasts till September. This is not exactly the best time to visit Nagpur, as the heavy rainfall might dampen your travel plans. However being an offseason, there is a chance that you can avail great deals on hotel tariffs. Nagpur in Winter (October - March) This is an ideal season for a visit to Nagpur, with pleasant climate and a lovely ambiance waiting for your arrival.
