History of Murud
Unlike other beaches, Murud has a significant history with sea forts situated amidst the Arabian sea. The island fort, Murud-Janjira was built in the 17th century by Malik Ambar, the Sultan of Ahmednagar. The fort is surrounded by water from all the sides. The Kasa fort as well is of a very historical importance. Spread across 9 acres, this fort is considered to be the most important sea forts constructed by the great Marathas in order to conquer Murud Janjira. The ruins of Kasa fort can be seen from the sea shore.
Itinerary
Day 1-Reach Murud by noon, check in the hotel and head to the beach straightaway. The beaches are lovely and it's a great way to begin your vacation. The sunset from the beach with the fort in the background is simply breathtaking. End your day with some authentic and very delicious local Konkani food.Day 2-Head to visit the majestic Janjira fort on day 2. The fort is accessible from Rajpuri, by sailboat. It takes approximately 30 minutes to reach. After this, you can visit Kasa fort or stroll around Naigaon beach.

However, it is advisable to not visit during monsoons because of the extreme monsoons in the Konkan region. On the upside, the beauty increase manifolds during monsoons. The summer season here is noticeably very hot and dry and you should generally avoid travelling to Murud during this time. July marks the beginning of the monsoon and you should avoid travelling during this time. Due to extreme rainfalls, the roadways and the railways are affected. Frequent landslides make it a dangerous option. However, it is beautiful during this season.

The best time to visit Murud is in winters. The temperature during winters is very comfortable to be on the beach or take a ferry ride to the sea forts. The temperature ranges from 13 to 29 degrees Celcius in the winters which make it an apt time to visit.
