History of Kamla Nehru Park The park was a brainchild of our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, or Chacha Nehru as he was fondly called, who established it in memory of his wife, Kamala. The park's shoe structure is inspired by an English nursery rhyme which tells the story of an old woman who lives in a shoe: There was an old woman who lived in a shoe. She had so many children, she didn't know what to do; She gave them some broth without any bread; Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed. Things To Do at Kamla Nehru Park If the traditional outdoors experience is what you are looking for, the Kamala Nehru Park is where you should head to. Apart from providing playground amenities for kids to have a fun time, the park impresses with its spectacular perspective of Mumbai's iconicMarine Drive, also known as the Queen's necklace. One may choose to stay back after sunset as well, to see the city of Mumbai light up before their very eyes from an advantageous viewpoint. Since the park is perched on a hill, it is comparatively less humid than in the city, fusing a wonderful, light-hearted cheerfulness in its air and presenting a setting for community interaction. The whole garden comes alive during monsoon season, with a colourful palette of flowers and the chirping of migratory birds. The Ashoka Pillar is the point within the park that is holding on to its inherent historical background. The four-faced lion statue represents a small but important heritage from our founding fathers.
