History of Mukteshwar Temple The temple dates back to the 10th Century BC. The Puranas consider Mukteshwara Temple to be amongst the 18 temples which are dedicated to Lord Shiva. As per an old legend, an enormous battle was fought between a demon and Lord Shiva. Though the demon got defeated, he attained Mukti. This festival is celebrated as a part of Ekamra Utsav which is celebrated for those people of the state who believe in Hinduism. The Mukteshwar Utsav is celebrated for four days. However, it is better to avoid heavy monsoon as well as winter months for a comfortable journey.
