The city of Sun Temple
Konark is a beautiful coastal town near the Puri district, in the state of Odisha. It is most famous for the historic Sun Temple, dedicated to the mythological form of the Sun. Constructed in the 13th century, by King Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga dynasty, this temple complex was made in the fashion of Lord Suryadev holding the reins of his chariot. Due to the heavy structure and the weak soil of the area, the main structure collapsed in 1837, but the audience hall is still preserved and well maintained. Adjoining the structure is the beautiful beach of Konark. Annually, a famous dance festival at the Sun Temple Complex, which invites dancers from every part of India.

One can find a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food in the main market place near the beach. The region's specialty is thefish-fryprepared in Bengali-style. The other local delicacies that one must try, includePakhala (a preparation of rice), Dali, Mandia Jau, Dahi Baigana, Dahi Machha, Dahi Bhindi (fried eggplant, fried fish, fried ladyfinger dipped in spicy yogurt sauce), Khatta, Aludum, a variety of Pithas, Dahi Badi, Rasgulla, Chhenapodapitha, Gulab Jamunand a flattering variety of seafood. Continental and Chinese food is also served in the restaurants here.

Konark Dance Festival is an event held annually in the backdrop of the exquisite Konark Sun Temple in Odisha.
