History of Amritapuri
Before the Ashram was established, it was just Amma's house which stood there under the shed of cows. Brahmacharis who flocked to the place slept on the sand. Amma lived in a small hut which stood next to the house of her parents. This hut was then converted into a kitchen wherein all the female followers of Amma used to reside. The cow shed belonging to the family was the place where the darshan used to take place. This cow shed was later converted to a temple by Amma's father. With the growing disciplines, it became mandatory to construct a bigger hall which took five years to complete starting from 1988 to 1992.
