Karnaprayag is a city and municipal board in Chamoli District in the Indian state of Uttarakhand located at an elevation of 1,451 metres. The other 4 prayags including Rudraprayag, Devprayag, Nandprayag andVishnuprayagalong with Karnaprayag make for the Panch (five) Prayag. This destination has a lot of mythological significance given the fact that it is believed to be the place where Karna of Mahabharata worshipped the Sun God. That's not it, it is considered to be the centre of meditation for Swami Vivekananda and his disciples. And, when all this combines with some adrenaline pumping adventure sports, it makes one's stay in this blissful town worthwhile.

The City of Karna
Nestled between majestic peaks like the Nanda Devi and located at the convergence of the Alaknanda and Pindari, Karnaprayag is one of the Panch Prayag and is thus one of the holiest places for Hindu pilgrims. Named after Karna of the Mahabharata, Karnaprayag is believed to be the place where Karna worshipped the Sun God.
Carrying immense religious value, Karnaprayag is also the place where the river Ganga descends into the plains. The numerous temples, the holy ghats and the flowing river provide a natural calmness to the body and soul. Also famous for meditation, Karnaprayag is visited by numerous people worldwide in search of inner peace.
One Day Itinerary
Day 1:Start off your day with a visit to the Uma Devi Temple, Chandika Devi Simli and Karna Temple.
Day 2:Visit Nandaprayag in the morning. Enjoy bungee jumping/ river rafting in the morning and kayaking in the late afternoon.
Day 3:Explore the Nauti Village. Tourists interested only in adventure activities can go for several other activities. Travellers interested in yoga can enrol for a week long yoga course and experience happiness sink in their nerves.
Restaurants and Local Food in Karnaprayag
Considered as a holy town for Hindus, the food available in Karnaprayag is predominantly vegetarian. Owing to the hilly terrain of this place, not many restaurants have been set up here. The major source of food are the roadside stalls that primarily serve only vegetarian delights. Though, a few hotels have in-house restaurants and offer non-vegetarian delicacies.

Karnaprayag receives tourists all year round depending on various activities. While early summers are perfect for camping, monsoons are mainly for the pilgrims and winters usually attract adventure lovers. Summers in Karnaprayag are slightly uncomfortable with temperatures rising as high as 40 degrees Celcius. The monsoons come with a lot of festivals and spread joy through the city. The winters in Karnaprayag are pleasant and the perfect time to enjoy nature.

Karnaprayag in Summer (March - May)
Temperature during the summer season ranges between about 15 degrees Celcius and 40 degrees Celcius. While the early summers are perfect for adventure sports and camping, the hot weather in April- May does is not much enjoyable for tourists.

The monsoon season in Karnaprayag comes with a lot of festivals like Savan. There is a rush of tourists in this season due to the religious events.
