Jageshwar, is a small town in Uttarakhand is like a town carved exquisitely for temples. The biggest temple out of the lot of the 124 temples here, is the one that is the most visited, the Jageshwar Mahadev Temple is situated on the Jataganga Valley.
Mostly built in the 9th century, the temples are exceptionally well preserved here. The long and short of Jageshwar then remains, that if you're an archaeological geek, with a thing for exploring the deeply seated mythological beliefs that for the root of the Indian culture, the place will leave you feeling enchanted, with an unquenchable thirst of exploring beyond.

Jageshwar is an ideal destination for people who are looking for a relaxing vacation full of tranquillity in a calm environment. It is also a famous hill station known for yoga and meditation. It also attracts a significant number of religious people as it is one of the most visited pilgrimage centres in the Kumaon region.
One Day Itinerary
Jageshwar isn't the type of place that will take too much time to cover unless you are a culture and architecture fanatic. Start the morning by paying a visit to the Mahamrityunjay temple in the town, and have an early breakfast at any of the dhabas nearby. Pay a visit next to the Archaeological Museum next, to learn more about the history of the area. Get some lunch packed on the way out of the city, and head to Jageshwar temple about 2 km from the town. Make sure to tour the temple properly and learn of all the historically relevant facts about the most visited temple in the area. Your last pit stop would then be the Dandeshwar temple, where you can stay till late evening, visit a nearby dhaba for some local food like aloo puri, cleanse the platter with some dessert like the balmithai and sit back to enjoy the cool evening winds of Jageshwar.
Restaurants and Local Food in Jageshwar
Jageshwar is a small town in district Almora, with more of regional food joints and dhabas, offering local, Indian, and popular cuisines at affordable prices. Formal dining is not available in the town, but you can be sure to enjoy a hearty meal with a picturesque backdrop. Fir a filling serving of aloo-puri, you can visit the dhaba right next to the popular Tara Photo Shop. The peeli daal (yellow lentils) with basmati rice, which is a variety of long fragrant rice. . Those with an incurable sweet tooth, rejoice. The Almora district, where Jageshwar is situated is home to some very authentic desserts of the country. The locally popular desserts are the balmithai, made from milk and cane sugar, covered in small sugar balls and khoya singori, made from milk and wrapped in maalu leaves. The dining experience in Jageshwar may be limited to a few local cuisines, but for what they lose in quantity, they make up for in quality.
