History of Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium
The stadium was originally constructed with limited seats and a roof over the main stand. The rest was all standing area. However, before the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the standing seats are converted into bucket seats. Built in the memory of the fourth Prime Minister of India- Indira Gandhi, the stadium has been a popular ground for sports ever since.
In 2011, a friendly match was conducted between Malaysia and India. In 2014, Northeast United FC was formed in the Indian Super League and the field became a regular practice ground for the team. The stadium also hoisted 33rd National Games of India in 2007, South Asian Games in 2016 and Assam Global Investors' Summit in February 2018. Also, Aizawl FC uses it as their home ground.
How to Reach Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium
Guwahati is well connected through state-run buses, taxi cabs and auto rickshaws. You can either drive down or hire a private vehicle. Alternatively, you can take a public bus to reach your destination.
