Flora and Fauna at Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary Some of the unique animals that you will find in the sanctuary are-1. Sloth Bears are quite strange looking creatures. They have no upper incisor teeth and have a very long tongue which helps them to suck their favourite termites. They also eat other insects, birds' eggs and honey.2. Barking Deer lives peacefully in the sanctuary. It is not easy to spot them until they bark like a dog. Barking deer are solitary and timid. They are mostly spotted alone or in a pair than in a group. Be patient and quiet if you want to capture one in your camera.3. The Indian Pangolin is a fascinating ant-eating creature, with overlapping scales. These unusual scales are made up of hundreds of small hairs compressed together. Like the Sloth Bear, the Pangolin likes to eat termites and ants. When it comes to defending itself from tigers and other predators, the Pangolin curls up into a ball, to let its scales protect it.4. The Malabar Giant Squirrel or Ratufa Indica is roughly the size of a small dog, with its tail about the same length as its body. It is very shy, and when it senses danger, it flattens itself on a tree branch to blend in with the foliage. Although predominantly black, its colour ranges from mixed red to black and off-white. Remain still and keep looking closely on the nearest tree to spot one of these creatures. When it comes to the flora, the sanctuary has different varieties of it. The entire area is covered with deciduous and semi-evergreen forests. It is famous for its high-quality Tectona grandis, Adina cordifolia, Grevillea robusta, Eucalyptus, T. bellerica, Mitragyna parviflora, Cordia macleodic, Acacia and Xylia xylocarpa. It is also rich in bamboos, herbs and climbers many of which have medicinal value.
