History of Lower Lake
The mesmerising lake was commissioned by Chhote Khan, a minister at the court of Nawab Hayat Muhammad Khan Bahadur in 1794 to beautify the quaint city. There were some wells in this region which were merged to form the enchanting Lower Lake.
Over the years, the beauty of the lake was compromised to pollution. It now suffers from drainage waste of the sewage, washing of clothes by the washermen and a lack of fresh water source nearby. This has rendered the lake as eutrophic making its water non-suitable for drinking.
