However modern Bhatinda came into existence in 965 AD, established by Bala Rao Bhatti - a Bhati Rajput king. This is also the very city where Guru Gobind Singhji fought against the Mughals. Industrial Centre
Bhatinda makes for a thriving industrial hub. It houses the prestigious Guru Nanak Dev Thermal plant, which has 4 units with the capacity of 110 MW each. The plant generates almost 26.4 lakhs electricity units in a day and caters to the energy requirement of the entire state of Punjab.
Bhatinda Chemicals Limited is another success story of the city, which provides employment to a large number of people in Bhatinda and also produces items such as rice, vanaspati, refined oils etc. The city also houses two successful cement plants-Ambuja Cements and UltraTech Cement Limited. It also has National Fertilizers Limited to its credit, which was commissioned on 1st October 1979.
