History of Pul Kanjari
Moran was the most elegant dancer in the Royal court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. As Moran had to travel from a nearby village Makhanpura, she had to cross a canal linked to river Ravi which was built by Shah Jahan for the irrigation of the Shalimar Gardens of Lahore. The channel didn?t have a bridge. One day, while crossing the canal, Moran lost the silver sandals that were gifted to her by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Due to the loss of her shoe, she refused to perform in the Royal Court. As the dancers in those days weren?t respected and were referred to as ?Kanjari?, Maharaja Ranjit Singh built a bridge for a more relaxed commute of Moran.
The architecture of Pul Kanjari
The historical memorial which is now renovated has been given a touch of royalty and has become a must-visit destination for tourists. The Shiva temple is built with the Nanakashi Bricks and is beautifully decorated with Frescos. The Sarovar is divided into a separate gents and ladies bath, with a water stream for animals. The famous 12-door house, known as the Baradari, used to be the stay house of Maharaja Ranjit Singh which is now in ruins.
