History of Sariska Palace Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh built this palace as a hunting lodge primarily to welcome Duke of Connaught, son of Queen Victoria. The grandeur of the Sariska palace was highly appreciated by the guests. It was a perfect blend of apt location and superior architecture. Because of its proximity to the forest, the royals often had the privilege of spotting animals in the wild right from the comfort of their balconies! In fact, they occasionally hunted from their balconies itself. And hence, this majestic palace served as a hunting lodge for the Maharaja and his guests for several years. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh has been known to have bought 7 Rolls Royce cars and treat them as garbage disposal vehicles to spite the Rolls Royce salesman who treated him inappropriately. Imagine, if he can spend such a fortune for a petty feud, how much would he have spent on a palace that he wanted to welcome the Duke in? Architecture of Sariska Palace Renowned for its architectural grandeur and natural beauty, the Sariska palace has the architecture like no other in the state. The reigning king shipped in an architect from overseas to make the architectural theme of the palace a blend of French and Rajasthani styles. The majestic palace boasts of architecture so exotic that it is bound to inspire awe in everyone who has ever visited it. The walls of the palace are a soft beige and glisten as the morning sun smiles upon it. With its thick stone walls amidst the green landscapes, it stands as a symbol of power and prowess. Instead of peaks, the towers are domed with perfection. The insides of the splendid palace are flanked with ostentatiously detailed pillars and the paintings of his Majesty Maharaj Sawai Jai Singh decorate the walls with a sense of pure royalty. From the grand flagstone doors to the opulent arches, this beautiful palace smugly challenges even the slightest thought of replicating the marvel. The magnificent lake of Siliserh and the majestic Kanakwari Fort are both situated in the national park.
