The most popular event is the Snake Boat Race, which is a thrilling event to watch as well as participate in. 100-120 feet long canoe-like boats make serpentine movements through the water, thereby popularising the name. Other categories of boats which participate in various events of the race are Churulan Vallam, Iruttukuthy Vallam, Odi Vallam, Veppu Vallam (Vaipu Vallam), Vadakkanody Vallam and Kochu Vallam.
Vijaya Beach Park
Within the distance of just 450 m from the main beach, Vijaya Park is a house of amusement specially meant for children. Equipped with all kind of rides, the park will keep the little ones occupied for hours. It also offers boating, cycling and toy train facilities. The opening timings for same are 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM. It charges INR 10 for a 10-minute ride. Other charges include Video permit: INR 25, Camera permit: INR 5. Located in the close vicinity of the Allepy Beach, Vijaya Beach Park is a pocket-friendly way to have a fun-filled weekend with your family.
Alappuzha Lighthouse
300 m from the beach lies the oldest lighthouse of Kerela. The lighthouse was completed in the year 1862 under the rule of Rama Varma Maharaja of Travancore. This was one of the busiest ports of Kerala and served as an important trade centre. Today it stands still even after 150 years of its construction and serves as a fascinating attraction for its visitors. Interestingly, the lighthouse is still a manned station.
