A little coastal town tucked away in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, Alibaug is a very popular weekend getaway holiday destination and has earned itself the name of 'mini-Goa', owing to the high tourist footfall all year round. Steeped in colonial history, Alibaug is a quaint little town located about 110 kilometres from Mumbai, and is replete with sandy beaches, clean unpolluted air and plenty of forts and temples, ensuring that despite being a small town, you never run out of activities to do.
Alibaug has numerous beaches, and all the beaches are only a few minutes? drives away from each other, so you won?t have to worry about which beach to visit and which one to leave out. The most visited in the beach in Alibaug is, of course, Alibag beach, which offers a spectacular of view of not only the sunrise and sunset but of the Colaba fort as well, which you can take a short boat ride to. The Colaba fort was once the cornerstone of the Maratha Empire, and most of the fort is still in good shape. Other popular beaches in the area include Kihim Beach, and Nagaon Beach, with Kihim beach being a photographer?s paradise.
Alibaug is home to Mandwa Beach, a beach famously known for the innumerable number of movie shootings that take place here. The beach offers a stunning view of the Gateway of India from its bay, and you can sit and sip on a cool drink on the sand under the orchard of coconut trees lining the beach, and while away o lazy afternoon or two.

What Makes Alibag An Amazing Tourist Destination
Alibaug is dotted with temples, and a few major temples where tourists flock to are the Someshwar Temple, the Hanuman Temple, and the Shiva Temple. Most of these temples are situated on top of small hills that you need to climb in order to reach the temple, but the sweeping views of the Konkan coastline from the top is worth the climb.
Alibaug is famously known for its forts, as the city played a very important part in the pre-colonial era. Other than the Kolaba Fort, other forts in Alibaug include the Khanderi Fort, Revdanda Fort, Undheri Fort and Murud Janjira Fort, all of which have a rich history of their own.
Apart from the temples, forts, and beaches, a very famous tourist attraction in Alibaug is the Alibaug Magnetic Observatory, which is one of the very few British-made buildings that exist in Alibaug. This observatory is not only the only one of its kind in the entire Asian subcontinent, but it is also one of the only 13 such observatories present all across the world. The observatory records geomagnetic data using precise recording instruments, and is a popular tourist spot, especially in the winter.
Being a coastal city, Alibaug?s cuisine predominantly consists of seafood, but you can also try other styles such as Continental or South-Indian in the numerous eateries spread all across the city.

November to July is the best time to visit Alibaug to enjoy the beaches. Between August to October, you can enjoy clear rainy days exposing the lush green beauty of Alibaug. However, do note that boat service between Mumbai and Alibaug is not functional during the rainy season.
