History of Ana Sagar Lake One of the most picturesque places in Rajasthan and a key reason why people flock here in huge numbers, the Ana Sagar Lake has been a stupendous attraction of the city ever since the 11th century, when its construction began. This picturesque lake was established in Ajmer by the emperor Anaji Chauhan. The king built the lake at some time between 1135 and 1150 AD. The construction of the lake was undertaken to ensure the betterment of the civilisation, and this process began when a dam was raised across the Luni River. The catchments of the lake were constructed with the support and assistance of the benevolent community, while the Pavilions near the lake, which are commonly referred to as 'Baradari' and are mostly a marble-stoned pavilion were constructed by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the year 1637. The surrounding Daulat Bagh Gardens, renowned for their greenery and ambience, was established by another Mughal ruler, Jahangir. The circuit residence on the hilltop in the vicinity was once used to serve the British Residency. To ensure that the splendour and beauty of the lake remain pure and unharmed, the High Court has prohibited any further construction in the catchment area of the Ana Sagar Lake.
