Legend of Sela Pass According to the legend, Jaswant Singh Rawat, an Indian army sepoy fought alone against the Chinese soldiers near the Sela Pass during the Sino-Indian war in 1962. A tribal woman named Sela brought food and water to him but killed herself on seeing his mutilated body. The brave Jaswant Singh was later posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra.

Best time to visit Sela Pass Even though Sela Pass is open throughout the year, the best months to visit are October, November, March, April and May as there are less chances of the route being snowed-in due to the snowfall. The temperatures can range from anywhere between 20 to 5 degrees Celsius, hence adequate warm clothing is necessary. Road:Tawang is well connected to all major cities of the North-East by ASPRTC buses and some more private buses.
