Sanasar is named after two local lakes and will offer you a quieter side of Jammu and Kashmir infused with adventure and excitement on demand. The twin villages of Sana and Sar, need a place in you list if you are in for spending some time in a village and that too an eco friendly one, with one its step in the past and one in a naturally sustainable future. The area could offer you an ideal extension to your trip to Jammu and Kashmir which is a little less full of activity and will tease the excitement in you with the host of activities it has to offer. It is one of the least travelled places in Jammu and Kashmir, but it is breathtaking. Sanasar is known for its green alpine meadows, low rolling hills and high peaks. It is the aero-adventure-sports capital of Jammu. What's not so Great? Accommodation choices are very limited and not that good. Reaching there can also prove to be a problem. The state has some political disturbances also (terrorist attacks). The temperature is very low during the winters. Sanasar is surrounded by coniferous trees that cast an enchanting view, and you can experience nature in all its glory. Adventure activities Sanasar is the aero-adventure-sports capital of the Jammu. Sanasar is a sports-adventurists' paradise as one gets an avenue for learning and practising paragliding and hot air ballooning. Paraglidingis one of the most famous adventures in Sanasar. At Sanasar, you will find mostly 'Tandem Hand-gliders' which are meant to carry both the pilot and a passenger at once. The J&K TDC will train you in the same. Paragliding is an activity that will give you the privilege of witnessing a breathtaking aerial view of the region. Hot air ballooningis another trend among the tourists. It?s a recreational sport where one gets to enjoy an aerial view of the area being traversed. It is an ideal sport for photographers for taking some beautiful shots of the mesmerising meadows.One can also enjoyhorse ridingamidst the hilly regions. Campingis also introduced in Sanasar by J&K Tourism Department (Wilderness Adventure Camps). Camping Gear is available on rent from J&K TDC.

Itinerary Sanasar can be explored in one day. In the morning, you can go for paragliding followed by hot air ballooning. You can then visit the two lakes after which the area was named. You can try horse riding towards the afternoon. You can then visit the Shank Pal temple and Nag temple. In the evening don?t forget to try shopping in the local market and try some delicious traditional cuisine. If you want to go for trekking and rock climbing, it is advisable if you stay for one more day and do all of that on that day along with a small visit to the golf course. Like this, you will get more time to soak in the beauty of Sanasar. It is a little place, and you can travel to nearby places on foot and also in a taxi, and the weather is pleasant all year round, and hence you can explore the region throughout the day without feeling tired.

Restaurants and Local Food in Sanasar Sanasar offers wonderful traditional Indian cuisine. There is a lot of variety in meats, herbs, spices and homemade dairy products with exotic flavours. Tandoori, bread and rice items are a favorite amongst the localites. You can try out thechocolate Barfi, Sund Panjeeri, Rajma with Rice, Kalaadiwhich is a processed cheese,Khatta Meat(mutton cooked with pomegranate or lime juice) and various type of pickles made from Kasrod, Girgle, Mango with Saunf, Zimikand, Tyaoo, Seyoo, and Potatoes.

Apr-Junis the best time to visit Sanasar The best time to visit Sanasar is during May-June and September to October. The temperature is cool and pleasant and is perfect for adventure activities. During winter, the temperature drops low, and it is advisable to carry heavy woollens. Weather in Sanasar Loading... Sanasar in Summer (April - June) It is the best time to visit Sanasar. The climate is pleasant, and there is a cool breeze. The meadows are blooming with flowers and are beautiful. It is the best time for the adventure activities and sightseeing, and you explore and stay outside the entire day as the temperature hardly touches 25 degrees Celsius. Sanasar in Monsoon (July - August) It is not advisable to travel to this place during these months as there are high chances of rains and landslides. The weather hinders the outdoor activities, and you don't want to go there and want to stay inside. Sanasar in Winter (September - March) The initial months of the winter season, September and October have a moderate climate and is not that cold. It is an ideal time to visit the place.
