The holy abode of the apocryphal figure, Saythya Sai Baba, Puttaparthi is a town which takes you back to the days of ashrams and the ways of living in those times with an equal influence of the present.
A tiny town in Andhra Pradesh, Puttaparthi has gained global fame as a centre of religious brilliance. It is a town which offers modern approaches of religion, settlements and even urbanization, being a unique village with urban facilities. Though Puttaparthi does not have too many natural marvels, or traditional tourist attractions its richness and substance lies in its spiritual significance and a fresh breath of ideologies that it houses. Some of the places one must visit include the Sathya Sai Ashram, Sri Sathya Sai Space Theatre, Anjaneya Swamy Temple and a few more.

Authentic Handicrafts in Puttaparthi
This small town is renowned for a large number of authentic handicrafts that are easily available here. Compared to other large cities in Andhra, the crafts of this town are cheaper and much more authentic since they are locally made. Among the most famous items available in this town are Banjara needle work fabrics, brass and wooden home decor items, stone and birdi crafts, toys and lacquer ware.
Banjara needlework is famous for its bright colours, mirrors and bold patterns and should be a part of everyone's wardrobe. The brass and wood work is of a very high quality and is also exported. The most common patterns include themes from Indian Mythology, animals, human figurines and Hindu gods. Birdi crafts are a local speciality and are made with silver inlay on metal which gives it a very alluring sheen. In the markets of this town, you can find many retailers selling these and many more items for a very reasonable price.
Itinerary
Day 1:Arrive in Puttaparthi by road, rail or air. Settle into your hotel and explore the markets and small temples of the city like Lord Dattatreya Temple and Gopalaswami Temple. There are also many gardens, small restaurants serving home-cooked food and street stalls selling a variety of items that you can visit.
Day 2:Visit the Chaitanya Ashram and the number of buildings, museums and gardens within its premises. The meditation tree, planetarium, Sathya Sai babe Museum, wish-fulfilling tree and sports stadium. Exploring the large Ashram complex will take up the full day.

Being a religious town, only vegetarian food is available here. However cuisines of different countries are also available giving the town an almost surprising and rich variety in food. Local dishes includeLaskora Undalu (coconut laddu) Sunnundallu, Pachadi-typically made of vegetables/greens and roasted green/red chilies, Pappu Koora(Lentil based dish), Vepudu(Fry)- crispy fried vegetables, Garelu (A type of Vada), Dosa, Chutney, Sambhar.

Sep-Febis the best time to visit Puttaparthi
The summers are fiery hot and not suitable for sightseeing. The months from September to February has very pleasant weather and is perfect for sighting, outings and other tourist activities. The monsoons are not icky and can thus be suitable for a short trip or visit to the temples.

Puttaparthi in Summer (March - June)
Summer lasts from March to late June, and during this time, the temperature can rise above 40 degrees Celcius. There is sunshine throughout the day, and the weather is hot and dry. Outdoor activities should be avoided during the summer since the high temperature makes it uncomfortable to venture outside.
Puttaparthi in Monsoon (July - September)
Monsoon lasts from July to late September and Puttaparthi receives scanty rainfall but monsoon months are humid. July is also considerably hot, and the temperature is between 30 and 35 degrees Celcius. The rain is unpredictable though there is no hindrance in travelling to and from the town during this season.
