Mantralayam Tourism
Mantralayam is a holy town situated 74 km from Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh and 250 km from its state capital, Hyderabad. It is located near the border of Karnataka and on the banks of the river Tungabhadra. Mantralayam is known for Sri Guru Raghavendra Swami, a saint who entered into a samadhi alive in front of his disciples in 17th Century. He was a Madhwa saint who is considered to be a reincarnation of Prahlada (A daitya king who was saved by Lord Vishnu's Narasimha avatar).
The main attraction here is the Temple and Mutt "complex." The temple elephants and chariots carrying the deity around the temple on special occasions is a spectacular sight, while the Tungabhadra river is also worth seeing.

A Spiritual Haven for Sanatan Followers
Named so for its spiritual inclination towards Sanatan Dharma, the base of today's Hinduism, Mantralayam is a holy pilgrimage destination nestled on the banks of River Tungabhadra. The site is well known for the Raghavendra Swami Temple, dedicated to Shri Raghavendra Swami, a follower of the Vrindavan cult of Lord Krishna. The best time to visit this temple is during the evening aarti, at 7:00 PM, although the site is open all day. Other sites worth visiting in the vicinity of the complex are Panchmukhi Anjaneya Temple, Lakshmi Venkateshwara Temple & Vedic Pathshala.
One Day Itinerary
Ideally, reach Mantralayam by noon and check into a hotel. There are several of these offering rooms at cheap rates. Preferably, choose the one closer to the temple. Refresh and visit the temple, which would be at a walking distance, around 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. The temple offers decent lunch and dinner for the devotees apart from the few small restaurants just outside the temple. There's an aarti at 7:00 PM followed by a procession of chariots carrying the deities called the 'rathotsavam'. Early next morning, go to the river (most devotees take a bath here) and then visit the temple again before leaving.
