History of the Terekhol Fort
The fort was originally built in the 17th century by Raja Khem Sawant, the Maharaja of Sawantwadi, as the hillock offered a commanding view of the Arabian Sea. In 1746, the fort was surrendered to the Portuguese after several skirmishes between the forces of Sawantwadi and the Portuguese Army, renaming the fort as 'Holy Trinity Fortress of Tiracol'. The church of the Holy Trinity was built during this time as well. The fort remained under Portuguese rule till 1961, which marked the exit of the Portuguese from the Indian territory. Due to repeated wars, the integrity of the fort had been compromised. In 1976, efforts were made to develop the fort into a weekend holiday resort and it was eventually converted into the heritage hotel we see today.

The best time to visit Fort Tiracol is between November and March, but this time also attracts higher tariff as it is the prime season for tourism across Goa. The months from April to September are better for those looking for cheaper rates at the hotel.

Air:The closest airport is the Goa International Airport in Dabolim, about 80 km away from the fort. Taxi services are readily available at the airport and will transport tourists to the fort's location.
Rail:The Thivim railway station operates as the headquarters for all North Goa railway activity, situated about 45 km away from the fort. One could opt for a taxi directly to the fort or to the Querim beach where ferry services are available to the fort.
Road:The closest major bus stand is the Mapusa bus stand, situated about 35 km away. Taxi services are available to the Querim beach from here.
Sea:The jetty at Querim beach offers regular ferry services across the Terekhol river to the fort, between 6:30 AM and 9:30 PM.
