History of Brahmotsavam
The sanctum sanctorum or the core temple is at least 1200 years old since the Pallava Kings of Kancheepuram had been worshipping and patronising this in the 9th Century AD. After that, the Chola and Pandya kings of Tamilnadu, Vijayanagara emperors (14th Century AD), King Sri Krishna Deva Raya, Maratha General Raghoji Bhonsle, rulers of Mysore and Gadwal patronised this temple, gifted multi-crore donations and built its various facilities over the last 12 centuries. The Mughals failed to conquer the area probably due to the rough terrain. Even the Britishers chose to stay away from the area and respected the sentiments of the Indian people.
Legend and Importance of Brahmotsavam
According to Hindu mythology, the history behind this festival traces to Lord Brahma. It is believed that Lord Brahma worshipped Sri Balaji on the banks of the holy Pushkarini in Tirupati. Lord Brahma wanted to thank Sri Balaji for Balaji's protection of humankind. Also, the name of this festival traces its roots to the worship of Lord Brahma.
On the first day of the Festival Garudadhwaja is hoisted near the Srivari Alaya Dhwajasthambham. A procession then proceeds of Lord Venkateswara on the Pedda Seshavahana proceeds around four streets of the main temple for two hours until midnight.Ankurarpana and Senadhipati Utsavam are celebrated on the day just before the first day of Brahmotsavam.

Tips
1. Aadhaar Card is compulsory almost for all darshan at Tirupati including Anga Pradhakshan.
2. Go in traditional dresses inside the Queue Complex. No pants for gentlemen, only Dhothies and shirts or pyjama-kurta. Ladies as usual can come in sarees, churidars or salwar-kameez but dupatta is a must.
3. Women should not wear flowers of any kind in the whole of the Tirumala Hills since all the flowers in the hills are only for the deity.
4. No batteries/cells are allowed inside the temple and so definitely leave your cellphones, cameras, computers, and all other items with batteries in the car or the room.
5. Non-Hindus, wanting to have Darshan, need to sign a Declaration Form in triplicate affirming their faith in the Hindu gods. These forms are available at Vaikuntam Queue Complex (VQC) and in all TTD Enquiry offices.
