History of Alamgir
During the siege of Anandpur Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru, evaded Mughal and Rajput armies to enter Alamgir with the help of two pathan followers who risked their life for Guru Gobind Singh ji. They helped him escape by pretending to make him a sufi and changed his attire and appearance to fool the enemy. As a manji or a palanquin was used to disguise the appearance of the 10th Guru so that he could enter Alamgir, the Gurudwara came to be known as ShriManji Sahib Gurudwara. To this day, the original palanquin is preserved in an underground cell.
