History of Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary The Bird Sanctuary owes its name to the river that flows inside it. Originating from the Western Ghats, passing through the Silent Valley, Kozhikode, and Malappuram, the Kadalundi River adds seven stars to the place. Today, the sanctuary is being managed by the government Gram Panchayat of Vallikunnu and Kadalundi. The organisation looks after this exotic reserve and the birds that reside in it. Fauna in Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary The Sanctuary has both native and migratory birds in its vicinity. These include gulls, terns, sandpipers, cormorants, and herons. The significant attractions over here are Malabar Hornbills, Kingfisher, Darters, Woodpeckers, Brahminy kites, Whimbrels etc.A wide variety of mussels, crabs, and fishes are also spotted in the tranquil waters of Kadalundi River. Several species of snakes, turtles, and crocodiles are also found here. A further drive of an hour would take you to the sanctuary. Rail:The Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary finds itself 19 km from Kozhikode Railway station, hence is easily accessible via cab or local bus.
